What does a Plasterer do?
The job of a plasterer is to mix plaster and apply it to internal walls, ceilings and floors to the required standard so they are ready to be decorated.
Plasterer's can work as part of a small team or on their own. The most common types of plastering work are the following:
- Solid Plastering - involves you apply wet finishes to surfaces and putting coverings including pebble dashing on external walls.
- Fibrous plastering - involves creating ornamental plaster work, such as ceiling roses, using a mixture of plaster and short fibres shaped with moulds.
- Dry lining - fixing internal plasterboard partitions on a timber or metal frame ready for decorating
When you are a plasterer you might be employed or self employed and your work may vary from large commercial projects or small scale domestic plastering jobs.
Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
The CSCS was established in 1995 with the objective of helping the construction industry to get quality up, accidents down and cowboy builders out.
And more and more employers are now requiring their staff to have this card as proof of competence, you can get this card once you have completed your plastering courses and have gained your NVQ level 2 in Plastering by applying on the Schemes web site: CSCS Card
The card costs £25 and it costs £17.50 to sit the health and safety test
